The Embassy of Ukraine in the United Republic of Tanzania initiated and held the first meeting of Ukrainians residing in Tanzania.
This
historic event took place on the eve of important national holidays: Defenders Day in Ukraine, the Feast of Pokrova (Intercession of the Holy Virgin), and the Day of Ukrainian Cossacks, all celebrated on October 1.
The gathering brought together Ukrainians living in Dar es Salaam, as well as those who travelled from Zanzibar. The event was hosted in the welcoming atmosphere of the Saint Paraskevi Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral (Alexandria Patriarchate) in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting began with a tribute to the courage and heroism of our soldiers. Defenders Day symbolizes the unbroken spirit, military traditions, and valour cultivated from the warriors of Kyivan Rus' and the Cossacks to the modern Armed Forces of Ukraine. We noted that the Pokrova holiday has historically been a key date for Ukrainian military formations.
A joint prayer for Ukraine and all its defenders was led by Metropolitan Dimitrios, to whom the Embassy expresses sincere gratitude for his support and hospitality.
Following the prayer, members of the Ukrainian community continued their informal conversation, making connections and building solidarity. Such meetings are crucial for strengthening the diaspora and maintaining the national spirit far from home.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this momentous event!
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!
